Well, I rode by myself on Saturday. C’mon people! I thought you liked bicycles?!?!
Anyways, the weather was not bad. Cool but not rainy. I rode the route posted previously in reverse, with slight modification. It was a there-and-back to Short Beach, traveling through the Flowerfield/SBU R&D park, St. James, Head of the Harbor, and Nissequogue. It was a great spring day, and I was able to see and hear a lot of spring migrant birds from my bike, with especially nice views of Snowy Egret, Yellow Warbler, and Yellow-rumped Warbler.
Next week, there is a plant sale out at the Hamlet Organic Garden and I would like to do some riding out there. Its over 18 miles out to the farm, and much of that route is along traffic heavy routes, like Nicholls Rd and Horseblock Rd. The best way to enoy the south shore might be to carpool there with our bikes and then ride from there.
Given the low turnout so far, I guess its time to ask some questions…
Are you interested in riding?
Where would you want to ride?
When would you want to ride (day of the week/time of day)?
How long of a ride do you want to go on (in miles or hours)?
Just leave your comments here, or email me at fwcoord AT gmail DOT com
Update: I’ll probably hold off on the South Shore for now. Maybe in June we’ll ride there. I’m up for a short ride on Saturday morning if anyone wants to join me, 10am at the fountain. Route TBD.
