Summer Term Hours

Hello all,
Our summer term (June 1st-July 3rd) hours will be Tuesdays 3pm-5pm. The SBU Union closes early during the summer so we’ve had to adjust our hours accordingly.

FYI I’ve been advised that there will be some maintenance work taking place during the upcoming month in the union basement. We may have to cancel shop during these repairs. Please check either here or Facebook for cancellations before coming to the shop. I’ll post any cancellations as soon as I find out about them.

Survived another semester!

Hey all,
Now that the semester is over, we’re going to be closed for the next two weeks. We need a bit of time to take inventory, clean shop, and rest after another very busy semester. Thanks to everyone that came and volunteered! It’s great to see returning folks as well as new faces.

We’re working on scheduling new summer hours. At the moment, I’m waiting on a couple of summer classes to finalize their schedules before discussing scheduling with our regular mechanics. Once everyone’s schedule has been finalized, we’ll post the new hours. Rest assured, we will be open consistently throughout the summer.

Finally, a big congratulations to all the graduating seniors and grad students (our own Matt Lammens has finished!). Please make sure to take some time to enjoy yourselves and celebrate all of your accomplishments. We’ll miss seeing you around and you’re always welcome to come back.

Finals Week Hours

Hey all,
Yay it’s finals week! Is everyone excited?!? If you’re looking for a way to de-stress we’ve got some bikes in the shop that need to be stripped for parts. We’re actually encouraging you to be destructive (for a good cause)! Think of it as extra messy bubble wrap. If that sounds like fun (or if you need to do regular shop stuff), we’ll be open during our regular hours this Wednesday. Come on down and take a break from studying!

We will also be setting up some summer hours too. As soon as the time and day are sorted out, I’ll post them here and on Facebook.

Good luck on finals and term paper writing everyone!

Bike Security

Hey all,
With the temperatures warming up I am seeing a lot more folks out riding around campus. That’s great! What’s not great is the way some of y’all are locking up your bikes. It’s time for an intervention. If you have a few minutes, take a look at this video and please stop:
1. Locking your bikes to the plastic fences like the ones around Javits and the Library (no tools necessary to steal since these fences break easily)

2. Using a cable (or U lock) to attach just the front / back wheel to your frame while not attaching the bike to something sturdy. (all a thief has to do is pop a wheelie or carry the bike away)

3. Leaving valuables on the bike like purses and backpacks since “you’ll only be gone for a few minutes”.

In the past few weeks we have seen a serious increase in the number of students with bikes either completely stolen or having lost a component like a wheel. We will alway try to do our best to help, but it just takes an extra minute or two to lock a bike up safely and avoid a lot of headaches. If you have any questions, please come stop by the shop and we’ll be happy to share some tips for locking up more securely.
