Reopening this Thursday!

Hey all,
Good news! We are reopening this week. Our summer hours will be Thurs. 6pm-8pm (we may close early). Our new location is back of the Sanger building in the Tabler Quad. We’ll have a sign on the door. If the door isn’t open, we’re not home. We’ll post here if we have any closures, cancellations, etc.

If you’re planning to visit us, please do not bother the dorm staff or bring any bikes through the dorms (go around outside do not cut through). Also, as you’re all aware, this is a new location for us. Please be patient with us as we get settled into our new spot (it’s far smaller!).

Shop Update: Grand (Re)Opening Coming Soon!

Hello all!
I know it’s been a while since I posted. I am happy to report that we’ll be having a Grand (Re)Opening in June just in time for summer cycling season. I’m waiting on a few more things to get sorted out, but once they are, we’ll post an opening date, our summer hours, and a map to our new location.
If you’re around campus tomorrow (April 21st), we’ll be set up at Earthstock with an information table. Unfortunately, due to the soggy weather, Earthstock has been moved into the SAC ballrooms. We aren’t permitted to do repairs in the SAC (or bring bikes indoors!), but are happy to offer advice and share knowledge.
We are also looking to recruit new volunteer mechanics. So if you’re interested in learning some new skills and doing community service, please either stop by tomorrow or contact us via this page or the club email.
We’re really looking forward to getting Freewheel back up and running again!
Have a great day!

Shop Opening Postponed Due to Water Damage

Hello all,
So if you’ve been following this page for the past month, you’ve probably noticed me mention several times that we’ve had difficulties moving into and setting up the new shop. I wanted to share with the shop community what we have been dealing with over the past month or so.

1. One of our cabinets was not transported to the new location, and the official spearheading the move didn’t respond toour emails for over a month. When he did get back to us, we were told that they couldn’t move one of our two major cabinets. We (the mechanics) had to come up with a solution to transport it to the new location.

2. When we actually got into the new location to unpack, we discovered significant water damage on many of our boxes. Tools, instruction manuals, and many parts were moldy and rusty, leaving them useless. We do not have nuts, bolts, screws, ball bearings, and a whole list of specialized parts. Sadly, we can’t fix bikes without these parts!

3. After unpacking and cleaning what could be salvaged, we discovered that we were missing an entire box of hand tools essential to club operation.

Simply put, we are missing parts and tools essential to the operation of the shop. Unfortunately, we can’t function until these items are replaced. I have been in contact with the university, but they’re slow to respond. Until we are able to replace essential equipment, we will have to  remain closed. I understand this is a hardship to folks that depend on us. It’s hard for us too! We all love volunteering, but we simply can’t fix bikes without parts and tools.

We will keep you updated as best we can about the status of the shop, and we are working hard to get things up and running as soon as possible.

Hang in there, and thanks for understanding!

Shop Status UPDATE:
Due to the ongoing move, shop will be closed UNTIL FALL SEMESTER. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we work through this challenging time. As soon as we have settled into our new location, I will update this page, our blog, and our email list with the new shop hours and location.
